Gorka ALDA (1971)

Composer and multimedia artist.
Lives and works in Paris.
After studying music at the Conservatory of San Sebastián with Gotzon Aulestia, Gorka Alda continues with his musical training by moving to Paris in 1989 where he enters the Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison. Endowed with a scholarship from the Ministère de la Culture et de la Francophonie, he obtains a First Prize in Harmony, Musical Analysis, Counterpoint and Orchestration. He studies composition with Alain Roizenblat, with a grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture and he obtains the First Prize in 1999.
In his first period, Gorka Alda composes are mostly for piano and voice: preludes for piano inspired by the paintings of Paul Klee, cycles of melodies inspired by poems of Garcia Lorca, Hugo Mujica...
He studies electroacoustic composition at GRM (Groupe de Recherches Musicales) with Christian Eloy and Régis Renouard-Larivière, continuing with Christine Groult at Conservatoire de Pantin.
He obtains his diploma in electroacoustic composition with the highest distinction and an award from Sacem (the French Society of Authors).
He currently works on sound installations and often collaborates with artists from other disciplines such as poetry, painting, sculpture, video and dance. His compositions are often performed outdoor, creating a dialogue between the poetics of space, the materiality of the place and the universe that contains it.
In 2002, the Foundation Chillida-Belzunce awarded Gorka Alda the Prize "Encounter between the arts" in 2002 for his piece « Con el aire cortado el hierro»: a sound installation with electronic music and chamber groups and soloists in dialogue with the outdoor sculptures of the Chillida-Leku museum.
